Words from the Adjutant
March 18, 2009
To the members of the Detachment of Texas,
As you can see in this membership update, we are above the 80% mark, however, the 90% target date is just around the corner. It is now the time to make that final push towards our year end goals. We must continue to work towards that 100% goal in membership. We are only approx. 500 members short of the 90% target date which is due on April 9, 2008. I am very proud of everyone that has worked so hard on their membership so far. I am only asking that we continue to keep working a little harder to get to the 90% target and then reach the 100% goal in membership prior to our Detachment Convention in June. Lets go Team Texas!

As everyone can see, we only need 220 more members to reach the 80% target date. I know our Membership Chairman, Richard,
and myself have been asking everyone to work membership every day, but now is the time to reach a little deeper and find those old
renewals or the slow renewals that always come late. If we all continue to work together, we can make the 80% target date and then
some. Lets get that 100% membership for our Detachment Commander Joe McPeters. I have to congratulate everyone for doing an
outstanding job over the last 2 years working your membership programs. We have come a long way in the Detachment of Texas. I
am very proud of everyone's hard work and want to say THANK YOU! for a job well done. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in
West Tawakoni in about a month. I want to apologize to everyone for the late newsletters. They are being put in the mail as we speak.
I will do better next time for the Detachment Convention. Please read everything in this call letter. There are many points of interest and
good information concerning the Detachment Convention. Until we meet again,

All newsletters have been mailed. Please remember to let your Squadron Commanders know that the newsletter was mailed to the Adjutants this time due to a
cross up in the mailing labels. Also, please note the change in my phone numbers. This is to take effect immediately. My home phone will stay the same at
281-463-2459. My email address will stay the same at knwink@msn.com. My new cell number is 281-541-8642.
Please limit these calls as this is a company supplied cell phone. I will be available at all reasonable times if needed including weekends. My new office number
is 713-466-7077 and please ask for Kevin Winkelmann as there are two Kevin's in the office. My apologies again for the late newsletters. It has been a very tough and trying times
over the last 2 months but there are brighter days ahead. I look forward to seeing everyone at the fund raiser this weekend in Killeen and also at the
Spring DEC in West Tawakoni. My congratulations to the Detachment for reaching its 75% target date and only being 80 members short for the 80%
target date. If we stay focused, we can make this a banner year for Commander Joe and the Detachment of Texas. Until we meet again,

Congratulations Team Texas! You made the 45% goal. As you can tell the National organization finally went over last years mark at this
time. That is a good sign. I applaud each and every one of you for your hard work, especially in getting membership. But we cannot stop
here. The 60% goal is just around the corner so continue to work membership, even though the holidays are upon us. I hope everyone
has a joyous holiday season and I look forward to seeing everyone in Austin in January.

Members from the Detachment of Texas. We were close. Only 117 members short of 45% goal. I know we will not make the goal by
Dec. 12th due to the fact that Department Headquarters will NOT be doing an additional mailing until Dec. 14th. I am happy with your
help and response. Keep up the good work and let us all try to hit the 60% target which is in January. The newsletters will be in the
mail by next week. Big newsletter this time. Please read all items. I have included all committee reports this time and will continue
to do so in the future. This should help clear up all disputed items. Also, this may make our Chairmen type their report so it can be
read by all. HA! HA! I hope to see everyone in Austin at the Mid-Winter Conference. I, along with others, will be going in front of the
Americanism and Finance Commission of The American Legion in hope of securing our membership so we can handle it. I know it
is a long shot but we have to start some
where. Until later,

To all members of the Detachment Executive Committee, Past Detachment Commanders and Chairmen of the various Committees, it has come to
my attention that there has been some concern over the recent expense checks you have received from Department Headquarters. If you encounter
any problems or undo fees from this round of payments, please forward all concerns and questions to Mr. Larry Black, Detachment Finance Officer,
and he will handle any outstanding issues. For the ones who are not happy with the new system of payment, learn to live with it because this is
what we have in place for at least the next two (2) years. After that time, Department Adjutant West and myself will look into the situation and
make any changes that are needed. This is based upon that I am still the Detachment Adjutant in the next two (2) years. If anyone has any
other questions concerning other points of interest in the SAL, please feel free to call me or e-mail me. If anyone has any problems with Department
Headquarters or any of the staff, please e-mail me along with a copy to Commander McPeters. If your Squadron, District or Division wishes to
request a visitation from Commander McPeters, please e-mail him direct with a copy to myself, so he can plan his schedule. I will update everyone
with the Commander's schedule. The next DEC meeting will be held in Austin the weekend of Jan. 25-27, 2008. The Spring DEC meeting is
planned for the weekend of March 14-16, 2008 in West Tawakoni. We will be having the leading candidate for National Commander, Tom Cisna
as our guest in January and National Vice Commander Mid-West, Mike Moss as our guest in March. The Detachment Convention is planned for
June 26-29, 2008 in Corpus Christi. Our guest at that meeting will be National Commander Ray Giehl. The next newsletter will be mailed out
around the midle of December. If anyone has any info to put in this newsletter, please have it in my hands by the first of December.
You will see some changes in the next newsletter. I will be putting in copies of all the Committee reports to go along with the minutes.
Chairmen, now you understand why I want your report to be neatly wrote and turned in. Finally, if anyone wants to put some type of article
in the Texas Legion News, please forward to Department Headquarters and if you want something to be put on our website, please forward to
Gary Winters at alessergod@texoma.net. Until later,

It is imperative that all concerns, issues, problems and other statements
concerning the SAL in the Detachment of Texas including Squadrons and
Districts, be directed to the Detachment Adjutant first and if I do not
respond within a decent time then forward the e-mail/phone call to the
Detachment Commander. My phone number is 832-435-2770 and my e-mail is knwink@msn.com. The is extremely
important and in no manner be altered for any reason. Please forward this information
to all Squadrons in your Divisions and to all Districts.
Thank you for your help in this request.

Gentlemen, as you can see, we are just 80 members short of reaching 100%.
This membership turn in was the last turn in before Detachment Convention.
However, please do not stop now. We need a large turn in of membership at
the convention so we can hit that 100% total. A large accomplishment for the
great state of Texas. Also, lets start on the road to the 2008 membership
year. The new cards are in and will be mailed out to all Squadrons that have
certified their officers. The PUFL membership has been completed and has
been turned in for 2008. We have 49 members in the PUFL program. I am
looking forward to seeing everyone in Irving in a couple of weeks.
April 24, 2007
Gentlemen, as you can see, we are stuck on this memberhip total. I need
everyone's help in getting our 100% goal by May 9, 2007. Please send in ll
of your renewals and new members now. If we are to make this goal and target
date, we cannot sit on our members and turn them in at a later date. We all
need to help Commander Richard in getting to his goal of 100%.
April 23, 2007
If anyone wishes to have an article in the next newsletter, I will need it
e-mailed or faxed to me no later than this Friday, April 27. After this date
no more articles will be allowed. This message should be of great interest
to the Chairman that will be working on their final report.
April 12, 2007
According to our web page and adding up all the Districts, we have a total
of 5,237 members turned in to date. I know the web site says 5,229 but if
you add up the numbers it comes to 5,237. This is approximately 87.5% of
goal. I also know that this total is not reflected on the National
Membership website. However, it takes some time for the members to get from
Austin to Indianapolis. I know District and Division Conventions are coming
up, so now is a great time to work towards your 100% membership. This could
be the year that we make a new ALL-TIME HIGH in membership. Our previous
high total was 6,226 accompished about 3 years ago if my memory does not
fail me. Division Commanders nad District Commanders work extra hard on
membership. If you cannot get the Squadron to turn in membership at the
conventions, ask them to bring it to the Detachment Convention so we can go
to Reno for the National Convention with 100% membership for 2007. I
sincerely thank everyone that has worked so hard this year on your
membership and getting it turned into Department headquartersas quick as you
do. Our new cards will be arriving in about 2 months, so it is time to
finish 2007 with a BANG!!!!!!!!!!
If anyone is going to put an article in the next newsletter, remember I need
it by the end of the month or forget it. The next newsletter will be mailed
around the middle of May. Until later,
Kevin Winkelmann
